Derek Gumuchian, RMT
CranioSacral

Derek is a passionate participant in the shifting health care paradigm, and believes the path to wellness begins with listening. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Massachusetts in 1999. After spending five years as a microbiologist in the pharmaceutical industry, he finally accepted that he did not wish to create a career there. He wanted to have a more immediately positive impact on people's lives.

Derek left biotech to become a certified massage therapist at the Muscular Therapy Institute in Cambridge, MA, where he graduated in 2005. He was immediately drawn to the profound subtlety of The Upledger Institute's Craniosacral Therapy, which uses very light touch to engage the body and allow for releases that are simply not part of the equation with deeper pressure.

Craniosacral therapy is a whole-body treatment modality, but much of the focus is on brain and spinal cord health. Thus, it releases soft-tissue restrictions that can create or contribute to back and neck pain, TMJ, headaches of all kinds, post-concussion syndrome, post-traumatic stress, emotional imbalance, and anything you can imagine that is associated with brain or soft-tissue dysfunction. It's the kind of bodywork that often has people leaving the treatment room pleasantly sighing 'I wish I had known about this sooner...'. Derek often blends massage and craniosacral therapy in his sessions to help create your sanctuary, to put you in touch with your best self, so that you may feel safe enough to release those restrictions that you have grown to accept as part of life. It is one of the greatest pleasures of his life to be at your service.
